School Sports Partnerships
School Sports Partnerships (SSP) are government funded programmes aimed at increasing the quality and quantity of PE and school sport opportunities for young people between 4-19 years old in state schools. Every state school in England and Wales is part of a SSP.
Each SSP is made up of a Sports College, local Secondary schools and all the feeder Primary and Special schools to those secondaries. In our case Lord Williams's Sports College, Cheney School, The Cherwell School, Oxford School, The Oxford Academy and St Gregory the Great along with all the primary and special schools in Oxford City and in and around Thame.
Each SSP is made up of Families - a Family consists of a Secondary school and their feeder primary/special schools. The Thame and Oxford School Sports Partnership (TOP) is made up of six Families. Please click on the tabs on the left hand side to see which schools make up each Family.
A full time Partnership Development Manager is responsible for managing and developing the SSP and ensuring that all relevant opportunities are made available to schools in line with the 7 High Quality National Outcomes which guide the work of all SSP's. These are -
Increased participation in High Quality Physical Education.
Increased Participation in High Quality Out of School Hours Learning.
Increased Participation in High Quality Informal Activity.
Increased attainment and achievemnet through PE and Sport.
Improved behaviour and attitude in PE, Sport and whole school.
Increased participation in competitive and performance opportunities.
Increased involvement in community sport and improved quality of community life.
Within each Secondary School there is a member of the PE department who teaches for three days and works as a School Sports Co-ordinator (SSCo) for two days. The SSCo role is a vital part of the SSP team. The SSCo works within their own Secondary school and with their feeder primaries to improve opportunities in PE, School Sport and community sport for all young people within their Family.
Within each Primary/Special school there is a nominated Primary Link Teacher (PLT) who liaises with the SSCo to improve the quality and quantity of PE and sports opportunities for the young people in their own school.
