PARAbility Day 2012

On Tuesday 17th April we held a PARAlympic day at St Gregory's where 35 students with either a Physical

Disability or a Learning Disability came together from both Primary and Secondary schools across the

Oxford and Thame Partnership to take part in a wide range of coaching sessions. The students

involved had six activities on offer of which they could pick four. Students had the opportunity to try

Seated Volleyball, Table Cricket, Boccia, Tri-Golf, Rugby and Football. It was a fantastic day, and so

pleasing to see the students getting involved and showing so much enthusiasm for the sessions that they were taking part in.

The atmosphere at the end of the day was amazing, both students and staff felt that they had gained a lot throughout the course of the day.

Students have the opportunity to progress on to the Playground to Podium Disability talent introduction

sessions in a variety of sports which will be held across Oxford from April to June.  Some real talent shone

through on the day. Who knows maybe we have some budding PARAlympians of the future out there!

Our thanks to the coaches from Studely Wood Golf Club, Oxford University Rugby Club, Oxfordshire RFU, Oxfordshire FA, Premier Sports Group, Oxfordshire Sports Partnership and Lord Williams's School for all their enthusiasm and expertise. Grateful thanks also to St Gregory the Great for hosting the event and to Louise Newell, School Sports Co-ordinator for organising the day.
